Google fixes issue causing Android apps

For certain Android users, applications are crashing at random. The problem by a faulty Android System WebView update. To fix the issue, Google has released a new Android System WebView and Google Chrome updates and updated at 4 a.m. ET on March 23, 2021: According to Google’s Workspace status page, the issue with Gmail on Android has been resolved.

According to the firm, all users should now fix the problem by upgrading the Android System WebView and Google Chrome from the Google Play Store. According to the Play Store page, Google has released a new edition of WebView (ver. 89.0.4389.105). Today, Chrome got an upgrade as well.

It is uncertain if this still fixes issues with other Android version crashes. Nonetheless, you can download the latest updates of all applications and see if the problem has been fixed. Otherwise, continue reading for potential workarounds.

Gmail, Google, Yahoo Messenger, and other apps are often shutting down and acting strangely. Google, on the other hand, is mindful of the issue and is working on a solution.

Both Android apps that use the WebView framework component seem to be affected by the error. WebView was updated incorrectly by Google, resulting in Android system crashes.

Some users have discovered that uninstalling WebView or deleting the new WebView update solves the issue. The update can also be uninstalled, according to Samsung’s official US help Twitter handle.

Solution to Issue

  • If uninstalling WebView does not fit, try uninstalling the fix. 
  • Go to Google Play Store Apps Games Installed to do that.
  • This list of installed apps should contain Android Device WebView. 
  • Uninstall it by tapping on it. 
  • For better performance, you can then reboot your Android smartphone.

When Google has resolved the problem, remember to reinstall the most recent edition of WebView. It is a crucial factor that allows smartphones to display websites.

For the time being, if you choose to use Gmail, you can use the desktop user interface. On the Google Workspace status tab, the organization has also noted the issue with Gmail on Android.
